How does the music market in Leipzig and Saxony work? Who are the key players, how is the local scene connected, and where can music professionals find relevant contacts and opportunities for collaboration?
The first workshop in our Music Market Info series will focus on Leipzig and Saxony - a region with a strong club, festival and independent music scene and a wide range of organisations supporting its further development.
During this approximately two-hour online session, Nils Fischer and Gretel Pfeiffer will offer an inside perspective on the local music ecosystem. The workshop will introduce the basic structure of the Saxon music market, important organisations and networks, local cultural infrastructure and the specific role of Leipzig as a music city.
We will also look at how to navigate the local scene, where to find relevant professional contacts and what opportunities Saxony can offer Czech music professionals - from networking and cooperation with local partners to venues, festivals and other professional activities.
There will also be time for questions and discussion with both speakers.
Meet the speakers
Nils Fischer has served as Leipzig’s Night Culture Commissioner since 2021. His position acts as a link between the city administration and Leipzig’s club, cultural and nightlife scene.
His work focuses on creating sustainable conditions for nightlife and cultural development, strengthening communication between the city and local stakeholders, and addressing broader questions of cultural policy and Leipzig’s development as a music and cultural city.
He is also involved in wider European discussions around nightlife and collaborates with local and international professional networks.
Gretel Pfeiffer works with KREATIVES SACHSEN, an organisation supporting the cultural and creative industries in Saxony. Her work focuses on networking, professional development and support for professionals working across the music and creative sectors.
Her activities include organising workshops and professional meetings, connecting stakeholders across the local scene and cooperating with showcase festivals and other music platforms. She will therefore bring a perspective on the Saxon music market rooted in professional networks, creative industry support and the practical realities of the local scene.
Who is the workshop for?
The workshop is primarily aimed at music professionals from the Czech Republic who want to better understand the music ecosystem in Leipzig and Saxony, build new contacts or explore future activities and collaborations in the German market.
The workshop also serves as an introduction to ProVisit Leipzig 2026, taking place in November. SoundCzech will bring ten Czech music professionals to Leipzig to explore the local scene, meet professionals, visit venues and take part in the STADT NACH ACHT conference.
